“I started painting my “Birds” series in response to my daughter’s discharge from the hospital after being inpatient for almost 6 months. She has a very rare disease, a collection of Abdominal Vascular Compressions, that had gone misdiagnosed for 5 years. When she was finally admitted, we had real answers to her pain and were given an accurate diagnosis…..After her lengthy stay in the hospital we were told she was recovered. With that news, she went back to college and with an unbelievable sense of freedom, I started painting again. Wild, loose and colorful, these “Birds” are a result of those feelings and that period in time……unfortunately our journey to healing was only just beginning as the rarity of her illness allowed for her team to have made their recovery pronouncement in error. My daughter has continued to fight for her health and has had to have many surgeries since that discharge. Despite needing one more surgery, she is closer to having her life back than ever. Through all of her surgeries and hospital stays she was able to recently graduate with her Bachelor’s degree. We have hope, and I continue to paint through it all…..
